First is a great comedy about the entertainment bizz that Fox killed before it had an entire season (that doesn’t narrow it down much!) it is called “Action” with Jay Mohr. HIGHly recommended.

The other, from England, is called “Jekyll”. I think it was a miniseries but it was a great watch. Funny and often genuinely unpredictable.

Either or both of you will kneejerk hate my request, but i make it anyway, and i hope you will give it some thought.

Please warn about spoilers. Just warn. Spoil all you want, but i have learned in my 4 decades and change is that the less i know about a work of fiction (book, film, play, album, artwork to some extent) the better CHANCE i have of finding real quality and \ or entertainment.

I am a little extreme in my desire to be unspoiled. I don’t want to know who cameos, whether it is “common knowledge” or not… that sort of thing. In my curmudgeonly ways, i want to know at maximum, who directed, who wrote, and the main cast. I guess i can live with the title, too.

I try to see films i am passionate about as early as possible, but i live far from civilisation, and my one-at-a-time netflix account is slow… and i don’t have that much time. So i really may not get to a film, even one i care about for a long time. Sometimes years.

Now, that was a digression, i do NOT expect anyone to be overly careful with my somewhat aggressive avoidance of quasi-spoilers. I just ask for a little warning. I turn reviews off unless i am sure i’ve already seen the film, tv show, etc. that they are talking about.

Actually, i have NO use for _critics_ – they contribute almost nothing. Talk about a film, semi-scholarly reviews, after the fact, that DOES interest me, but the two-thumbs-every-ass types make we a little ill.

Sorry if i wandered a bit in this comment, but i haven’t been drinking.

In conclusion, a simple “Heads-up, everybody, we will be spoiling Rocky Seventeen, the Revenge of Bullwinkle” would be greatly helpful.

Thanks for trying to bring up a political discussion, guys. There was a great article in the NYTimes by Frank Rich that said if McCain wins his nomination, Hillary has no chance. I think Barack could beat him. The problem is that McCain really appeals to a lot of independents. He’s never been a down-the-line Republican. For me, he’s the only republican candidate that doesn’t make me cringe. …I’d still like to have the opportunity to cast my vote for Billary, though…

I’d like to know more about how you define destiny – or any resources you might be able to point me toward for clarity.

The more basic definition, which is similar to the one I use (and can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destiny) follows:

“Destiny refers to a predetermined course of events. It may be conceived as a predetermined future, whether in general or of an individual. It is a concept based on the belief that there is a fixed natural order to the universe.”

And free will, “The question of free will is whether, and in what sense, rational agents exercise control over their actions and decisions” ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_will )

“Fixed natural order” and a rational agent’s control over his/her own actions and decisions seem semantically as well as inferentially exclusive.

Although, I do recognize that there may be different, more inclusive, and personal definitions, I am unable to reconcile them with the “popular usage” of the terms Destiny and Free-Will.

I hope that you can shed some new light on this subject – Jerame and I tend to be of the same cloth on quite a few matters and I’m always happy to hear a different perspective.

If we want to go by the odds, we might say that there are x number of people in the world that are friends with your former boss, and that out of those friends 1 of them happened to be in the same part of the world as you.

In the couple’s case the x is always one. The odds are almost insurmountable – and then you throw in the fact that they could only ever communicate with each other when the other one isn’t online… Can you imagine how many times they said to each other, “God, we’re never online at the same time.” And imagine them trying to carry on a chat…

You’re right about “The Drawing of the Three,” and to be honest, it has been so long since I read it I can’t remember how easy it was to get into.

Btw, “The Drawing of the Three” takes a while to get going. Keep reading. It’s a great book in a fabulous series. Another good story is “The Kite Runner.”
