so I have decided that this is going to be my own personal blog. Maybe that is a terrible idea. But considering that fact that no one (including Justin) doesn't read the comments; I that my ideas will be safe here. So I am in a strange place..... I am dating a woman that doesn't seem to really like me.... It feels like the only reason she continues to go out with me is because it seems comfortable. But there are others out there. It isn't as if i don't have options. I really like her but maybe we are to much alike. Any ideas?

Oh, hey. TWO really fun tv shows available on Netflix instant download!

First is a great comedy about the entertainment bizz that Fox killed before it had an entire season (that doesn't narrow it down much!) it is called "Action" with Jay Mohr. HIGHly recommended.

The other, from England, is called "Jekyll". I think it was a miniseries but it was a great watch. Funny and often genuinely unpredictable.

Two possibles for podcasting or just enjoying.

I'm OK with a change of format - i just ask for one thing.

Either or both of you will kneejerk hate my request, but i make it anyway, and i hope you will give it some thought.

Please warn about spoilers. Just warn. Spoil all you want, but i have learned in my 4 decades and change is that the less i know about a work of fiction (book, film, play, album, artwork to some extent) the better CHANCE i have of finding real quality and \ or entertainment.

I am a little extreme in my desire to be unspoiled. I don't want to know who cameos, whether it is "common knowledge" or not... that sort of thing. In my curmudgeonly ways, i want to know at maximum, who directed, who wrote, and the main cast. I guess i can live with the title, too.

I try to see films i am passionate about as early as possible, but i live far from civilisation, and my one-at-a-time netflix account is slow... and i don't have that much time. So i really may not get to a film, even one i care about for a long time. Sometimes years.

Now, that was a digression, i do NOT expect anyone to be overly careful with my somewhat aggressive avoidance of quasi-spoilers. I just ask for a little warning. I turn reviews off unless i am sure i've already seen the film, tv show, etc. that they are talking about.

Actually, i have NO use for _critics_ - they contribute almost nothing. Talk about a film, semi-scholarly reviews, after the fact, that DOES interest me, but the two-thumbs-every-ass types make we a little ill.

Sorry if i wandered a bit in this comment, but i haven't been drinking.

In conclusion, a simple "Heads-up, everybody, we will be spoiling Rocky Seventeen, the Revenge of Bullwinkle" would be greatly helpful.

Dont do it....dont go back to WOW! Play Warhammer online! It's comparable to DAoC(Dark Age of Camelot) if you've heard of that, it was made by the same people who have done Warhammer. It is well worth the update I did on my computer to play it, my computer probably could handle it just not as well. It is a well thought out MMO. If either of you think you want to try it I can give you a code to try it for 5 days for free. Jerame...you know how to contact me....let me know if you want to try it out. I'm totally pushing this game, I like it that much.

I guess good things do come when you have to wait. Best show in a long time. Great job.
By the way John, I just got a job for a post production company and "The Onions" a floor above the office I work at. It's strange all the writers kind of resemble and talk like you. It's weird when you get on the elevator and it's full of onion writers. It like being in a weird twilight zone were everyone is s John clone but they're all Jews. It's an elevator full of Jewhns.
Coming to Texas March 7-17 We should try and hangout guys.

Great episode. It's amazing how much I learn about Justin after 3 years of coupledom just from listening to this show.

About Superman and the KKK: could it have been after WW ONE instead of two? The numbers Jerame found seemed perfectly matched for such an event. I don't know how widespread the wireless was at that point though.

Thanks for trying to bring up a political discussion, guys. There was a great article in the NYTimes by Frank Rich that said if McCain wins his nomination, Hillary has no chance. I think Barack could beat him. The problem is that McCain really appeals to a lot of independents. He's never been a down-the-line Republican. For me, he's the only republican candidate that doesn't make me cringe. ...I'd still like to have the opportunity to cast my vote for Billary, though...

Suzi - you're right about reading the entire trilogy before making final decisions, but we wanted to talk about it and since neither of us had finished the trilogy but both of us had finished "The Golden Compass," we decided to speak from where we were.

I'd like to know more about how you define destiny - or any resources you might be able to point me toward for clarity.

The more basic definition, which is similar to the one I use (and can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destiny) follows:

"Destiny refers to a predetermined course of events. It may be conceived as a predetermined future, whether in general or of an individual. It is a concept based on the belief that there is a fixed natural order to the universe."

And free will, "The question of free will is whether, and in what sense, rational agents exercise control over their actions and decisions" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_will )

"Fixed natural order" and a rational agent's control over his/her own actions and decisions seem semantically as well as inferentially exclusive.

Although, I do recognize that there may be different, more inclusive, and personal definitions, I am unable to reconcile them with the "popular usage" of the terms Destiny and Free-Will.

I hope that you can shed some new light on this subject - Jerame and I tend to be of the same cloth on quite a few matters and I'm always happy to hear a different perspective.

Thanks again for your comments and thanks for listening.

1. Do read whole trilogy before deciding what it's about--keeps changing.
2. Pullman is an atheist, so take his context into consideration.
3. Free will and "destiny" are not actually mutually exclusive, IMHO. Depends on your specific definition of destiny, of course.

That was by leaps and bounds your best podcast yet. Extremely "listenable," good information, funny...

I really enjoyed the conversations about Al Gore and the open source music download industry.

BTW, Madonna is the other musician/artist you were trying to think of.

Ok, so let's all take the "it could have happened so it most certainly did" tack. I personally think it's ridiculous. Did you ever hear of Occam's razor?

You can look it up if not, but in short it says that the simplest explanation is the correct explanation, and in this case the simplest explanation is that it's fiction.

That may be true - but, it would be more like the Bosnian couple if it turned out that you had been lovers. You may have been connected in a Kevin Bacon sense, but the couple in Bosnia were a one of a kind relationship.

If we want to go by the odds, we might say that there are x number of people in the world that are friends with your former boss, and that out of those friends 1 of them happened to be in the same part of the world as you.

In the couple's case the x is always one. The odds are almost insurmountable - and then you throw in the fact that they could only ever communicate with each other when the other one isn't online... Can you imagine how many times they said to each other, "God, we're never online at the same time." And imagine them trying to carry on a chat...

All I'm saying is I ended up sitting on a park bench in the middle of a field in Switzerland when up came a girl I'd never met before. We started a conversation and it turned out that she was best friends with my boss at my former job back in Fort Worth, TX.

Oh, come on, the Bosnian couple is completely inconceivable. But, it does make for a good story - but, I'm still not willing to buy it hook, line and sinker...

You're right about "The Drawing of the Three," and to be honest, it has been so long since I read it I can't remember how easy it was to get into.

I'm willing to believe the Bosnian Couple story. Why not? It's a small world. Too bad they didn't have the happy ending twist, though. You know, they meet at the bar (or whatever) and realize what's happened.. suddenly they are in love again, blah blah blah......

Btw, "The Drawing of the Three" takes a while to get going. Keep reading. It's a great book in a fabulous series. Another good story is "The Kite Runner."
